Any news on this yet - I'm sure with the Series 3/4 that the online shops were listing this about 3/4 months before the release date. I hope that everything is ok and that it will be announced soon along with the next release of Allo Allo and Keeping Up Appearances.
Also is there any indication on when we can expect the You Rang M'Lord releases and Series 2 of Oh Doctor Beeching?

Its driving me crackers too. They seem to churn out all the tat programmes they have the rights to in quick succession, but make us wait forever for Hi-De-Hi and 'Allo 'Allo releases.
All that I've spotted, which I find quite worrying, is that a few online shops (www.choicesdirect.co.uk being one) have started listing 'Hi De Hi - Series 1- 4 (Collection) ' for release in April, which is just what they've already released in one boxed set. So I hope that they're not planning on stopping here and now.
Theres always the hope that on the same day (16th April) they may also bring out the next set. Fingers well and truly crossed!

I am going to E-mail Carolyn Bartolomew at the BBC and find out what is happening as Playback don't seem to be releasing much of anything at the moment. I will post any reply I get on here.

The only positive news regarding Playback is that another Playback release, As Time Goes By: Series 4 is listed for release by Choices Direct on 21/02/05, so it should only be a matter of time before Hi-de-Hi is announced.

A REPLY!! Basically on the subject of Hi-De-Hi she states that "Series 5 & 6 are provisonally scheduled for a 2005 release, although this is subject to change". Great news or what? I don't think!
On You Rang M'Lord she states it is "being considered for release, but we have not yet confirmed a date. Viewers requests for releases are held in high regard when we asses the viability of a programme for commercial issue, and are submitted to the BBCs Commissioning Editors for discussion for potential consumer availability".
So there you have it, nothing concrete whatsoever.
Sorry, Cjm, I had already sent my message when you mentioned Brush Strokes. But I recommend we innundate her with requests for Hi-De-Hi, YRML and any other comedy you wish to see on DVD.
Her E-mail address is carolyn.bartholomew@bbc.co.uk
She says she will welcome any comments, so get E-Mailing!!!!!!!!

Sorry to put a dampener on things Gary but this is the reply I got from Caroline. Not great news unfortunately. Hi Chris, Thank you very much for your e-mail to Joe Maplin’s office. I am very sorry for the delay in replying to you, but I have not been too well recently. I reported sick to the Maplin’s nurse who confined me to my chalet for a few weeks and have only just returned to work. On behalf of Joe Maplin, I am pleased to report that there are currently two Box Sets featuring of the adventures of the staff of Maplin's finest which are available to purchase from Crimpton market: Series 1 and 2, and Series 3 and 4. Unfortunately, we have no immediate plans to release further episodes of Hi-de-Hi or Brush Strokes onto DVD, but I am monitoring interest in these and have added your programme release suggestions to our files. Viewers' requests for releases are held in high regard when we assess the viability of a programme for commercial issue, and are submitted to the BBC's Commissioning Editors for discussion for potential consumer availability. I hope that this has been of interest to you. If you have any other enquiries about a BBC programme, please do not hesitate to contact me again. Well, Christmas may be over for another year but over in Deolali everyone is still reeling from the moment when the Sergeant Major caught Gunner Beaumont of the Royal Artillery Concert Party trying on his ‘santa's little helper's’ outfit - red velvet mini dress with a white trim! As if the sight of Gloria wasn’t bad enough (it scared the natives!), BSM Williams was fuming when Solly put his name forward to be Daddy Christmas for all of the lovely boys in the Concert Party! Best wishes, and I'll see you by the Olympic-sized swimming pool for the ‘Who Can Put the Most Spaghetti Down Their Trousers' competition – if wet, in the ballroom! Toodle-pip, Carolyn

Most of this message was what she said to me as well, but I didn't put it all on due to time restraints. So what the hell is she going on about? Are we or are we not getting more releases. Personally I think there is something going on with Playback as they don't seem to release anything at the moment. Oh well, we will just have to wait and see.

I asked Carolyn about the frequency of releases and whether there is any posisbility of speeding up the releases but she mentioned that the licensing process is very lengthy, so I think that this must be holding up Hi-de-hi and all the other releases.
It can't be anything to with sales because we would'nt have had Series 3/4 if that was the case. I remember when Series 3/4 was first announced on the Su Pollard site that it was going to be out in September 2003 but was pulled because of copyright reasons - I'm not definite but I think this may be the case with the Series 5/6.
The problem with Hi-de-Hi and all the comedies Playback is releasing is that the majority had limited or no video releases, so that means all the episodes have to be cleared for release for the first time.
The best we can do is be patient and keep hoping - I for one am hoping all the episodes will be released because I have never seen any of the episodes after Series 4 - I was too young when they were first shown and they were never repeated after 1990 on BBC1.

Could you possibly publish the e-mail address so we can all try and convince them there is a demand? I have tried e-mailing Universal Playback via their website but twice I've sent a message and twice they've completely ignored me I'm afraid, so they obviously couldn't give a flying you-know-what about their customers.
