Playback are hopeless. E-mails go straight to Universal Studios who never bother to reply.
The Beeb is who we need to contact. I had an email from Carolyn the other week, pretty much the same as the ones printed here. She says there will be no further Allo Allo releases (weep), but Hi-de-hi was scheduled for this year, although it now seems very much in doubt.
Can everyone who reads this, who hasn't already been onto her get in touch:
carolyn.bartholomew@bbc.co.uk
Think of it as a cyber-partition. The more people who ask her about it (she puts everyone onto the requests file), the more likely we are to see another box-set.

Well I e-mailed and got a similar reply - it was scheduled that 5 and 6 would be released in 2005 but this now seems doubtful. The most important part was "Although Series 5 and 6 of Hi-de-Hi were provisionally scheduled for a 2005 release, we have no immediate plans to issue further episodes onto DVD. However, I am monitoring interest in this and have added your programme release suggestion to our files. Viewers' requests for releases are held in high regard when we assess the viability of a programme for commercial issue, and are submitted to the BBC's Commissioning Editors for discussion for potential consumer availability." PLEASE everyone e-mail Carolyn at the carolyn.bartholomew@bbc.co.uk address - the above makes it very clear that the more requests they get to release it the more likely it is that it will happen! GET E-MAILING - PLEASE!

Playback are getting really bad, my opinion of them has plummeted with the Hi-De-Hi fiasco and with All Creatures Great And Small, which after 2 series, they don't seem to be releasing any more. Why bother releasing stuff if you aren't going to see it through? Some of the stuff Playback have released recently has been utter rubbish, just look at their website.
Acorn video are more expensive to buy but at least they seem to release everything in a particular series (e.g. The Good Life, Tenko, When The Boat Comes In) which were all licensed from the BBC. I reckon Playback are reluctant to pay the BBC for any more licensing and seem quite content with releasing stuff from ITV (e.g. A Touch Of Frost, The A Team). It's probably cheaper! Unless they release some more Hi-De-Hi, I will boycott their goods, not that they are releasing anything I want to buy anyway!!!

I have recently bought series 1 + 2 of Hi-De-Hi. I had forgotten how good this sitcom really was. I was so disappoined to reach the end of it that I went out and bought series 3 + 4 too. I've now reached the end of those too and was looking for the next series.
Now I find that they are not planning to release them. I'm so disappointed. I wish lots of people knew how good these early series are.
Would it be rude for me to email that lady at the BBC as well? Or is she getting overwhelmed?

I'm afraid there's little chance of her being overwhelmed.
E-mail away and get everyone you know to do so as well. If she receives a decent amount of correspondence then we stand a chance of them realising that there is still a market out here.

Please do e-mail her - all she has to do is send you the standard form reply which will only take a few seconds. She does say that she notes how many requests she gets, so the more e-mails she gets, the better. Really she's encouraging people to get in touch so e-mail away please!!

hi ive been watching this site for a while and reading all your comments.i am quite sick of the behaviour of universal and other companies.do they really give a thought about the buying public at all? if someone brings out a dvd of a long running tv series ie hi de hi,why bring out the 1st 4 series then dont bother with no more.my point is if they have no intention of releasing the entire 9 series of it why bother releasing it at all.All these companies think of is money money money and never think of the people who buys their products.if no-one ever bought their products they wouldnt have a job at all.its about time these companies stop taking the buying public as mugs and start treating us with respect.im very annoyed with universal who i have sent over 10 emails too,and surprise surprise not even 1 reply, which i find totally unacceptable from a multi billion company.i have also sent a few emails carolyn at the bbc, with again no response.is anyone else sick of this and agree with myself.if they cant be bothered to bring out the entire series of such programmes as hi de hi and others, why bother bring them out at all.i feel cheated and very annoyed at the way ive been treated and disgusted that we have to wait and wait.sorry if im ranting but im sure many of you will agree with me

Hi mate took a while to read your post - if you put "why" and "you" rather than "y" or "u" it actually makes it much easier to read. I certainly agree with you though, it makes me very angry. I'm surprised Carolyn hasn't e-mailed you back, but Universal Playback never seems to bother, I don' t know why they even have a contact option on their website. E-mail Carolyn again at the above address, she might have missed your previous mails.

No probs mate wasn't trying to be nasty or critical, I know it makes it faster to type it out but it actually slows you down reading it.

Do please e-mail Carolyn again though if you just send a very breif e-mail asking when more series will be release she can note it as another request. I'm surprised she didn't reply, though she's probably busy.
